What can a talented sixth grader do with a bunch of bottle caps?
Sell thousands of necklaces to over 500 stores called SNAP CAPS ™ and begin to build a multi million dollar business
M3 Girl Designs was recently featured on NBCs Tween Tycoons – SEE VIDEO!!!!
Business is booming for Maddie Bradshaw, a crafty sixth grader who, in just under two years has turned a hobby into a lucrative and expanding national business. Along with her mom Diane and sister Margot, the M3 Girl Designs company is on the move. Selling 40,000 of her necklaces last month in more than 500 stores nationwide, including Nordstrom and Kitson, the business M3 Girl Designs has grossed over $100,000 in the first quarter of 2008, and SNAP CAPS ™ are the hottest accessory at retail.
The interchangeable magnetic bottle cap necklaces SNAP CAPS ™ were created from Maddies desire for something clever to place in her fifth grade locker. By hand-painting the inside of bottle caps and affixing a magnet to the back, a once ordinary object suddenly became a virtual overnight sensation amongst teens and tweens across the country.
You can swap out the bottle caps almost like a little magnetic trading card. My sister and I love sharing them and just put up our different ones on our refrigerator and grab one as we walk out the door. It is that simple and fun! says Bradshaw. Each design is created by Maddie and produced by a team, of women in Dallas, her home town. A charming and thoughtful personality, this brilliant twelve year old entrepreneur is wise beyond her years. She has also begun writing her first book Beyond the Lemonade Stand. Her qualities shine brightly when she is interviewed, and make for an exciting, inspirational story. My experience has taught me to be a leader, and that its not just a mans world! says Maddie.

Adorable, yes. …
Adorable, yes. Trendy, yes. Original? No, not really. As stated already, there are TONS of people making and selling bottlecap art and jewelry. The interchangeable necklaces are great. Other than that, acting like this is a new invention is insane. I am nearly 40 years old and I remember making bottlecap charms in Girl Scounts. Congrats to M3 for their success. I hope they inspire others to create things that are truly original.

I dont really see …
I dont really see why she is singled out OTHER then the fact that she is 12. i mean like five hundred people make these and sell them through out the internet, theyre not that different or special. though i am impressed with her ability to create her own little enter[rise and be so young – and to be able to invest 300$ at so young, when i was little i was never able to save up that much money on my own, though having a supportive family probaly helps alot.

to me, that is VERY …
to me, that is VERY, utterly weird. & yes, i know victorian furniture is kinda off the topic from bottle cap necklaces, but i am trying to make a point about handmade stuff & quality. few stores are able to match the quality a well made handmade item inherintly possesses. so i repeat how silly all this seems to me. not only is it less creative to buy, Buy, BUY, not only do u become a slave to the latest ad campaign, u get less for ur money. ppl prefer that? WEIRD!!!

yeah, i’ve noticed …
yeah, i’ve noticed that too. i’ve honestly never quite understood that type of thinking. is is some kind of status thing? it’s most definately NOT better quality than handmade. just look at the high quality of antiques if u don’t believe me. before the industrial revolution, EVERYTHING was handmade. & look at the shape it’s in to have held out this long! victorian furniture, for example, are some of the most prized antiques to this day. handmade. yet ppl would rather spend extra for cheap junk?

There’s something …
There’s something about buying things to people rather than make it yourself. People would rather buy than make it most of the time.
