Does the consumer confidence report affect consumer confidence?

Seems like people would think that other people know something they don’t, so the trend of consumer confidence would make continuing that trend more likely. (Consumer confidence is going up, so I’m more confident about the economy)

Can a thermometer be accurate if what it said yesterday influences the temperature today?

You are correct. There is a circular effect. That is why they have disallowed "exit polls" to be conducted at Polling Places in New York when people in California haven’t voted yet. Why vote when they have already predicted the winner.If the newspaper said that times were good, would you say they were good just because the newspaper said it…. i don’t think you would. We Americans are too independent.
