The world is a global market. So when marketing you can no longer think of only one area or group, you must create a worldwide appeal that does not offend or exclude. So many people think only of the US market, but looking to the future one must understand the opening up of the Asian communities. China with it's large population and it's opening up of trade globally will be a strong force to reckon with. If you think of the US and the baby boomers who will be retiring, many want simplicity, easy adaptable, and user friendly products. Understanding cultures, differences and being adaptable is what will work. What makes anything successful is not only understanding the trends but being able to succeed above and beyond what the current trends set. With marketing today trends change quickly, so one must have a good product that will not just be a flash, but has longevity, and staying power.
