I need to pick one for an essay, but I’m kind of confused on what to pick. This seems like such a broad spectrum. I’m asking for some examples to help clarify what a topic for this would be. Thanks a bunch!

Kaiser, I feel what you are saying man… Gmail is my main email account , Yahoo is my backup that I really don’t use or rely on. Of course I tried to open my Gmail this morning and got the same message you got that changed the course of my morning as I depend on it to contact friends, family and my work contacts. So much for that this morning. And I heard its possible to be more problems with Gmail for the next few days…go figure! I did come across a interesting article about the Gmail issue while trying to figure out why nobody could email this morning. Take a look…peace

Have to decide on a topic by later today, and I have *no* clue what I want to write about….it has to be on a trend – any kind of trend (the current trend of bad horror movies and global warming were thrown around as suggestions in class)
A couple of ideas I’ve tossed around:
- the changing American family (more single-parent homes, less family time…)
- personal spending habits/debt (like all the credit card debt)
- government assistance/welfare (I know it’s always existed in various forms ever since America was founded, it’s just increased a ton over the years. That counts as a trend, right?)
Any other ideas? I want to write about something interesting but somewhat easy to research, but my brain is totally dead right now (in the middle of midterm week

More than 30 years ago political scientist Anthony Downs discerned what he called the “issue-attention cycle,” a five-stage process by which the public and especially the news media grow alarmed over an issue, agitate for action, generate piles of scary headlines, and then begin to draw back as we come to recognize that the problem has been exaggerated or misconceived, and the price tag for action comes in. While Downs thought that the issue-attention cycle for the environment would last longer than most issues, it appears the mother-of-all-environmental scares — global warming — is following his model and is going to begin to fade like other environmental alarms of the past such as the population bomb and the “we’re running out of everything” scares.
Just give it another 2 years, it will die all by itself… Then the next BIG issue will be all over the media, but rest assured there will be nothing we can do about that next BIG issue either…

In big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore etc. the latest trend is for ethnic food. For example, food from other countries which are not yet found easily (not Chinese or Thai) like Greek food or German food or all organic food etc. Also eateries offering small portion menu (not a traditional full course menu) which allows customers to savour more food is getting popular.
